Our Mission
Our mission is to end hunger and support Inuit food sovereignty throughout Nunavut by developing a sustainable food system for those in need. One that reflects Inuit societal values, supports our well-being, and ensures our access to affordable, nutritious, safe, and culturally preferred foods.
Our Vision
Ipirauttaaq’s vision is to prevent and end hunger and homelessness in Nunavut. We envision a community of prosperity where everyone experiences safe, affordable housing, food security, health and wellness.
What We Do.
Provide Housing and Supportive Social Services

Shelter
We are working to develop a transitional Inuit Shelter that offers to help shelter Nunavummiut in a more acceptable way, a place of refuge and support to transition.

Youth Initiatives
We empower youth to utilize their extraordinary leadership skills and talents to better themselves and their community by developing and offering many innovative programs that highly encourage, motivate and offer proper mentoring of Inuit Youth.

Relationships
Ottawa has more Inuit than any other city outside of Nunavut. Our street team will be available round the clock to ensure everyone is safe and has a place to be.

Food Insecurity
Though food insecurity is a problem throughout Canada, it is hitting Nunavut especially hard where food costs are 5 times higher than the national average. Our plan is to develop and support a proper food bank/soup kitchen in every community.

Mental Health
Using technology we offer some innovative ways to access mental health resources, virtual reality and being able to get a councillor 24/7 remotely is just two of these ways.

Arctic Container Project
By repurposing Shipping Containers we believe that our project will benefit all Nunavummiut. Appropriate affordable housing is not a privilege, it’s a HUMAN RIGHT! Train them and they will come! Our project begins with capacity building.
We celebrate the potential in people
We put our words into action
We take a wider role in civil society
We believe in rights & responsibilities
Volunteer with us
At Ipirauttaaq we consider our volunteers to be our greatest asset and need your help.
